Summer 2008

Now normally I am not one for facebook or myspace or sites that seem to be so completely self focused and prone to strange stalkers. By strange stalker I am referring to those certain people that you lost touch with for a reason that seem to hunt you down via the world wide web and want to reconnect. No. However, I have been informed that these types of sites are helpful to those who want to keep in touch when separated by distance. Thus I have decided to forgo my preconceived notions concerning self aggrandizing internet websites and just concorm to societal norms which so happen to be in this case, the blog. I'm actually very excited being able to keep in touch with friends and family and invite any comment or nude photo that you feel like posting. I will be teaching High School Social Sciences in Juticalpa, Honduras for the 2008-2009 school year at a private, bi lingual day school called Day Star. It has some affiliation with the Bah'ai faith so it will be interesting to learn a little more about a religion that I know very little about. I'm a little nervous to leave due to the fact that I will be away from the people that I love the most but I'm so excited to be able to travel again. I feel like jack Handey's "deep thoughts" whenever I travel and I always come back reinspired and rejuvenated and of course a little more cynical. This time should be different. With all the exciting things going on this year in the U.S....the race between Obama mama and McCain, it will good to witness it all from afar, as I typically loathe all forms of politics anymore, and see it from a foreign perspective. Oh my..i seem to be rambling. Is this what bloggers do? I'll try to curb this habit because I really hate sounding like an idiot. So basically this summer I'll be working. I get to hang out with some awesome 5th grade and 3rd grade girls during the day and we will read books and practice the piano and eat ice cream and talk about our favorite colors and what we want to be when we grow up. At night I'll be slanging Cosmos and tuna tacos for the yuppies that congregate at City Beverage to talk about their most recent "incident in the ER, OR, ICU...any other hospital abbreviation that you might find applicable." My buddy Crystal said it best when she said..."I love her to death but she's ready to go" when discussing the bitterness that we college educated waitresses harbor. I'll be taking some trips, seeing some shows and trying to get it together before I leave as well as avoiding the insufferable humidity that embodies summertime in the Southern States.
